My Chosen Genre

After investigating the importance of music genres and how the codes and conventions they bring can be relevant for the target audience, I have decided to create a music video with a country pop genre. Not only is this an appropriate choice due to the vast amount of available shots for country pop music videos, but the fact that I can feature a track written by my sister, which fits under this specific genre, means that I am already aware of the country pop theme as well as the conventions it carries.

Above is a Prezi I created to mind map some key words I associate with the country pop genre. These basic ideas are something I will try to convey as much as possible throughout my music video in order to conform to the conventions of an country pop genre. In terms of audiences, I will now investigate my target age, gender and music interests through further research in order to ensure I am producing a video that will be the most relatable.

Planning Considerations

I have created a mind map to show the things I feel are important to consider whilst planning and creating my music video. This I can continue to refer to as a check list in order to ensure I have covered all the key areas.

Music Videos: Different Genres

In terms of music video genres, the list is endless. From pop to heavy metal, examples of nearly every genre can be seen everywhere today.

Genre: A category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterised by
similarities in form, style, or subject matter.

Pop

RnB

Rock

I have put together a few examples of contrasting music video genres, along with the conventions that make them so recognisable to target audiences. This research will allow me to develop my own codes and conventions, as well as to choose my own genre that I need to portray later on.
